THEME
21st century is anticipated to be an age of “merging” by some, an age of “clash” by some others. What more can we expect for our civilization than this either.. or.. imposition? Does ethics necessarily require a self-sacrifice, a humble self-devotion for the other? Or is politics an expression of power at all costs whatsoever? Are there any fundamental rules for co-existence which are at the same time good for each and every one in a society? What should we expect from philosophy for a collective life driven beyond the conditions of loving, overpowering or bearing one another?
While questions as such influence our communal living this way or other, cities appear to be the scenes to witness the conflictions which come forth due to these sorts of questions. As each city increasingly self-creates its own ecosystem, how is it possible for us to intervene?
Antalya, with almost 1 million inhabitants, hosting more than 10 million tourists every year, is a city that constantly experiences “life style and value diversity”, which now invite philosophers to reflect on this picture.
